What Is Civet Used For?

The musk substance and scent produced by the perineal glands of both male and female civet animals is also referred to as "civet." This substance is highly valued in perfumery as a fragrance and fixative.

Civet has various names, including "civette" in Middle French, "zibetto" in Italian, and "zabAd" in Arabic.

Civet is also associated with Civet Coffee, known as "Kopi Luwak," it's an aromatic coffee made from beans from a civet's digestive system after the animals eat the flesh of coffee cherries, leaving the indigestible beans. This prized coffee can cost up to $600 per pound (0.45 kg) or $100 for a single brewed cup.
