This "Evil Eye" ("Ain al hasoud (عين الحسود)" or "Mal de ojo") is warded off by amulets ("nazar") or charms, made by stones or glass beads in the shape and pattern of a (most commonly turqoise blue) eye.
The amulets are used for jewellery, for babies, over doors, on vehicles and even displayed on jet airplane wings. According to traditional belief, the "Eye" protects against the ill-wishing or malicious intent of the envious person; it absorbs the glare and turns back the harm, and was used in the past by people of power and royalty.
